Would Scotland be able to exist as an independent nation, seperate from the UK?

I was thinking more along financial lines. they do get income from oil, gas and tourism, but their largest source of income is the english tax payer. services such as free health, prescriptions, buses, school meals, welfare support(dole)/social services would probably be cut, plus a rise in income tax. would all that be worth it?
