I want to take out my belly button ring for good, but its only been 2 months.?

I got my belly pierced about a month and a half ago, and I don't want it anymore. Is it ok to just take it out a keep it regularly clean? I heard it's really bad to take it out if you have an infection or something like that, but mine is healing really nicely... help?
